Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary
Kalatop is mesmerizing and a favorite haunt of the lovers of natural beauty and isolation. It is a must-visit place if you are visiting Dalhousie or Macleodganj. The Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary is located in a natural cove in the folds of mighty Himalayas. The sanctuary is surrounded by the peaceful and extensive green meadows populated with the thick deodar, oak and fir forest spread charmingly over an area of nearly 31 square kilometres and is the home of the Eurasian Jay, White-winged Black Bird, Black Headed Jay, Chestnut Billed Rock Thrush, Grey Headed Cannery Flycatcher and more such other fascinating bird species. It is a rich haven for ornithologists. Mountain and cold region mammals such as the Himalayan Black Marten, deer species, Goral, furry and quirky Squirrels, Serow, Jackals, and Langurs are also to be spotted to add to the charm and thrill of wildlife spotting.
