Kangra fort

Kangra fort

The Katoch dynasty constructed Kangra Fort in the 4th century BC, making it perhaps India’s earliest fort. It is also the biggest fort in the Himalayas and one of the most popular Dharamshala tourist attractions. The fort remained sturdy and unharmed for centuries despite having seen several fights. When a powerful earthquake of great size hit the area in 1905, it nonetheless sustained significant damage. Even though it is in ruins, this historic building, which served as the residence of the Kangra royal family, draws tourists who are interested in history and architecture.

A tiny museum, three temples—Ambika Devi, Lakshmi Narayan, and Shitlamata—as well as several other buildings can be found inside the fort.
