Khajjiar

Khajjiar

Khajjiar, a little village near Dalhousie (20 km away), is frequently referred to as the “mini-Switzerland of India” and is a fantastic destination for a day trip or overnight stay. For its picture-perfect green meadows, Khajjiar is renowned. A tiny lake sits in the heart of the meadow, where you may relax by yourself or engage in adventurous activities like paragliding, zorbing, and horseback riding.

Khajjiar, which is situated at an elevation of 6,500 feet, is also well-known for its nine-hole golf course, which is surrounded by rich vegetation and a stunning scenery. However, due to excessive snowfall, the road to Khajjiar may occasionally be closed throughout the winter. On your trip from Dalhousie to Khajjiar, stop through the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary.

Places to visit in Khajjiar

Khajjiar Lake

Khajjiar Lake is located in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district. It is positioned in a vast grassland terrain, 1,920 metres above sea level, between Dalhousie and Chamba Town, and is surrounded on all sides by evergreen cedar trees. The established god at the local temple, Khajji Nag, gives the lake its name. The lake has significantly diminished over time and is now in danger of going extinct.

Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary

Numerous species of plants and animals can be found in the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, you might see a leopard, bear, deer, langur, jackal, Himalayan Black Marten, Barking Goral, or any number of stunning birds.

Khajji Nag Temple

You can find some snake idols here because it is a temple from the 12th century AD that is devoted to Naga, the lord of serpents. It is primarily made of wood, and pictures showing the Pandavas conquering the Kauravas in the famous Mahabharata war are hung from the circumambulatory path’s roof.

Lord Shiva Statue

It is one of Himachal Pradesh’s tallest statues of Lord Shiva, at a magnificent 85 feet tall. The figure, which is polished in bronze, is stunning to behold.

Tibetan Handicraft centre

It is a fantastic location to buy gifts and souvenirs for loved ones. There are some good traditional Tibetan goods available.

How to reach Khajjiar

The town of Khajjiar, which is a part of the Chamba district, is easily accessible by cab and has a good 24-kilometer connection to both Chamba and Dalhousie. You can take a taxi from Pathankot, which is 95 kilometres away, to Khajjiar. As an alternative, you can take a bus to Chamba or Dalhousie and then a cab from there. A round-trip taxi from Dalhousie would set you back between INR 1500 and 1700.

Best time to visit Khajjiar

The entire year can be spent at Khajjiar. The natural splendour of Khajjiar is comprised of wide expanses of dense forests and lush meadows, and the mild climate only enhances it. The nicest and busiest times of year are in the summer.

There may be snowfall on occasion, and the winters, especially January and February, can be rather chilly. During these two months, the road to Khajjiar could be a little unexpected, and a journey could be ruined by a lot of snowfall.
