Shimla is the capital of the Himachal Pradesh and is probably the most popular hill station of India seeing thousands of tourists each year from all across the world. During the British Raj Shimla enjoyed prominence being the summer capital of since 1864. The wonderful old-world charm of this partly sleepy and partly buzzing hill-station is overwhelming. The Gothic building standing still and mute witnesses to the British Rule is India boasts of architectural splendour. Similarly, Dalhousie and Dharamshala too are sought after hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. Dalhousie commands a mesmeric view of the mighty Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas.
 
Dalhousie is also full of old world charm and is built on five hills namely Kathlog, Patreyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun. Itinerary

Day 1Dharamshala Arrival

Arrival at Dharamshala. There shall be check in at the hotel of your choice. Then proceed for a relaxing dinner and retire to your assigned rooms for an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2Dharamshala, Local Sightseeing

Wake up in the beautiful and pleasant environment of Dharamshala and set off for an exciting day of Dharamshala sightseeing. After breakfast, proceed for sightseeing of interesting tourist destinations in and around Dharamshala. Visit the Tsuglagkhang Complex which is known for being the official home of the Dalai Lama. It is also famous for being the largest Tibetan temple outside Tibet and is visited by hundreds of excited tourists from all across the globe all through the year. Gyuto Monastery is a must visit while you are in Dharamshala. It is among the oldest and most important monasteries of Dharamshala and was established after the Chinese had invaded Tibet and carried out forced evacuation of Tibetans from Tibet. These Tibetan fled and settled in India. Gyuto Monastery is now the shelter to more than 500 Buddhist monks and is an important centre for meditation and preaching Buddhism. Next, we shall proceed to the Namgyal Monastery which serves as one of the major learning and cultural centres of the exiled Tibetan population outside Tibet. The monastery houses more than 200 Tibetan monks. You can experience the fascinating Tibetan way of offering prayers and the deep throated chanting of the monks add an undefinable peace to the entire environment. Visit the Dal Lake for its serene and picturesque setting with its lush green cover of deodar and juniper trees. It is an ideal spot for family fun.

Come back to the hotel by evening after an eventful day of busy sightseeing have a relaxing and laid back dinner and retire for an overnight stay at the Dharamshala hotel.

Day 3Transfer from Dharamshala to Dalhousie (145 Kms/03 Hrs)

After a hearty morning breakfast set out to visit a few more attractions of Dharamshala. Visit Bhagsu Nath Temple and Mcleodganj. Bhagsu Nath Temple is a shrine of great importance and is one of the oldest temples of Mcleodganj dedicated to Lord Shiva and the local deity Bhagsu Nag. It has a serene beauty and a peaceful charm because of the cascading waterfall close by. You can grab some tasty bites and cool drinks at the shacks and cafes situated along side and take a refreshing dip at the two sacred pools of the temple premises known for their powers of healing ailments.

After lunch, get transferred to Dalhousie. On arrival check in at the hotel of your choice in Dalhousie. After a bit of relaxation visit the Mall Road. Return to the hotel by evening and after dinner retire to your respective rooms for a comfortable overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 4Dalhousie sightseeing: Chamba and Khajjiar

After a relaxed breakfast, on Day 04 visit Kalatop, Khajjiar and Chamba. Visit the Kalatop Sanctuary, feel the mystery of the mountain forests. Enjoy the spectacular beauty of the snow-capped peaks and the lush green valley spread across. Proceed towards Khajjiar, which is a peaceful and wide green meadow and have fun Zorbing, yak riding, pony riding or getting photographed in the traditional attire. Bask in the pleasant sunshine and enjoy the fresh cool breeze while you enjoy some local dishes. Proceed towards Chamba, the quaint and quiet Himalayan village. Also visit the Tehri Dam, which is the world’s fifth largest dam. This dam marks the meeting point of the rivers Bhagirathi and Bhilangana and presents some outstanding scenic beauty and is a haven for photographers. Visit the famous temples such as Lakshmi Narayan temple, Bajreswari temple, Hari Rai Temple and Chamunda Devi temple and the Chaurasi Temple square that has 84 shrines. In the evening, reach back to the hotel and after dinner settle down for an overnight stay at the Dalhousie hotel.

Day 5Dalhousie to Shimla Scenic Journey

After breakfast check out of the hotel in Dalhousie and proceed for Shimla. It takes approximately eight hours to reach Shimla from Dalhousie and the road is extremely picturesque, albeit winding. There are innumerable restaurants to catch up tasty snacks and viewpoints to catch some memorable snaps. Reach Shimla “The Queen of Hill Stations” and get awed by its old-world charm and serene sophisticated beauty. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Take a stroll to the buzzing Mall Road to feel and see the real tourist business in Shimla. Overnight stay at the Shimla hotel of your choice.

Day 6Shimla Sightseeing

After breakfast proceed for a relaxing and interesting meet with the real Shimla in all its glory. Visit The Ridge for its scenic beauty and click some mesmerizing shots of the distant snow-clad mountains. Walk to the Scandal Point and get familiarised with the interesting anecdote connected with it. Next stop would be Jhakoo Hill with the famous Jhakoo Temple offering panoramic view of the sky-high mountain ranges. Other locations that attract a lot of tourists in Shimla are the famous Christ Church, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Summer Hill, Annadale, The Shimla State Museum, Dharangati Sanctuary. Cover as much as possible and come back to the Shimla Hotel for overnight stay.

Day 7A Day Trip to Kufri and Chail

After breakfast, proceed for a day trip to the joyous and scenic locations of Kufri and Chail. Almost all the tourists who visit Shimla has so much to explore in these picturesque fun getaways of Kufri and Chail. Take an adventure filled pony ride to the hill points to have panoramic and mesmeric hill views and visit the Kufri Fun World for a lot of adventure and family amusement. Take a hike among the charming beauty of narrow hill tracks of Chail, a small quiet town established by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. Shoot dozens of photos of the picturesque locations. Grab a tasty lunch at the Heritage Hotel of Chail Palace and visit the Kali Temple, Cricket Gound, Chail Wildlife Sanctuary and Sidh Baba Ka Mandir for a complete day experience.

Day 8Departure from Shimla

After breakfast in the morning, check out of hotel. Utilize your leisure hours for personal activities and thereby proceed for your onward journey back home.
