A stunning hamlet called Sarahan can be found in the Himachal Pradesh state, close to Kinnaur. At a height of 2165 m below sea level, it is known as the “Gateway to Kinnaur” and is situated close to the Sutlej River Valley and the Indo Tibetan route. The village is a sight to behold, known for its never-ending apple orchards, deep emerald pine and deodar woods, gushing streams, wildflower fields, rustic settings, terraced farms, and slate-roofed buildings. Sarahan is a special spot because of the unmatched beauty of the surroundings, which include mountains surrounded by cliffs on one side and verdant ravines on the other, as well as the Srikhand Mahadev Peak. The area has truly benefited greatly from nature.

The magnificent two-towered Bhimakali temple, a localised variant of Devi Kali, is located in the centre of the area. It is constructed in a distinctive Tibetan architectural style with traditional Kinnauri elements. It serves as a base for numerous hiking treks throughout the region, earning it the nickname “the doorway to Kinnaur.” The lords of Bushahr, who were thought to have moved in Kinnaur, also made Sarahan their summer residence. The community is currently quiet and pleasant because it is remote and has a small population.

How to reach Sarahan 

Shimla is 170km (about 6–8 hours) away from Sarahan. Trains and aircraft run every nine to eleven hours from Kalka to Chandigarh, and from there, one can rent taxis or jeeps to get to Sarahan. There are several buses from Rampur, Jeori, Shimla, Chandigarh, and so on.

Best time to visit Sarahan 

If you wish to escape the oppressive heat in the rest of the country, the best time to visit Sarahan is from April to June. If you want to take advantage of the snowfall, go between September and November.
