The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, established on June 11th, 1970, by the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is well-known for housing some significant Tibetan literature. It has more than 80,000 manuscripts, papers, and books about Tibetan politics, culture, and history. In addition to this, there are over 10,000 images, over 600 thangkas, Buddhist-related artefacts and statues, and several other items.
The library is frequented by history buffs and anyone with a passion for Tibetan literature, despite being one of Dharamshala’s lesser-known attractions. Since the monks carried books, manuscripts, and records from Tibet during their 1959 escape, the library is very well-known.
